Mustafa Kemal

Mustafa Kemal used education and religion as major roles to modernize and reform Turkish government. Religious faith became a individual choice which gave minority religious faiths the freedom to practice their own religion. He aspired to equality and freedom for all of Turkey. He reformed Turkey to become more modern and to have a secular government by changing some of the dress of the women, such as the fez and the veils. He also required all citizens to have surnames. Secular means not pertaining to religion, which meant more choices for Turkey.
